Half Term with the Kids: Essex Attractions

As the best of the autumn weather rears its head and the children are off school, choosing to take a trip in the UK and visit some homeland attractions is a fabulous way of spending some quality family time together.

Colchester Zoo not only invites families to view animals such as fresh water turtles, komodo dragons and chimps, interactive displays also encourage hands on learning and a greater awareness of wildlife.

Hopefully during your stay you’ll find a couple of dry moments to have some days outdoors, but should the heavens open during your time in Essex, there’s plenty to keep you occupied inside.

Colchester Leisure World may sound like a simple sports arena, but it is actually one of the top indoor attractions near to Essex. Although fitness classes and spa sessions are available, children can go wild at the Shark Reef waterpark.

With 13 flumes, chutes and slides, inflatable water events, a crazy river, water toys and more, there’s something for everyone here whether you’re travelling with tots, tweens or older teens. Look online near to the time of your travel to check out any half term special pool activities that may be on offer.

Also worth a visit: Colchester Castle Museum, Natural History Museum Colchester, and Adventure Island.
