Spring is the season of love, and young couples all around the world are getting married. Most prefer a quiet ceremony with family and friends, and going on with their lives. Others prefer traveling to some offbeat places to take wedding pictures!
If you’re part of the second category, you’re in luck. We’ve created a sweet list of places where you can take wedding photos that will be the envy of your friends. If not, well, who knows what the future has in store for you? Show this list to your S.O., or maybe to your friends who’re in a relationship right now. Time’s short, so let’s get started.
Table of Contents
#1 The Grand Canyon – U.S.A.
Marriage is a wonderful thing, so why not visit a landmark that fills you with wonder? When it comes to great places to take wedding pictures, the Grand Canyon takes the cake.
Get dressed, grab a photographer, and come here at sunrise. It might be busier than usual, but it’s definitely worth it.
If you’re thinking of going there, you might as well pack some camping or hiking equipment as well. Everyone likes photoshoot. But spending a few precious moments in the wilderness with your loved one makes this a special place. Just remember that to go camping in the Grand Canyon you need a permit – that is if you don’t want to go to an official campsite.
The next item on our list is in Europe, a little volcanic island off the coast of Greece called Santorini.
#2 Santorini – Greece
Not only is Santorini a beautiful island, it has some of the most spectacular views you can imagine. It’s one of those places to take wedding pictures in one moment, and then visit a volcano in the next.
Now, judging by some of the pictures of Santorini you can find online, you may think this is an expensive place to visit. Luckily, you can visit about 80% of what the island has to offer absolutely for free! You can always discover exciting new things just by roaming the streets of the island towns. The caldera view is also splendid. It’s as they say – your mind can capture what your camera can’t imagine.
Take the trip, grab some wine, and prepare for the experience of a lifetime. We promise you won’t regret it. Do you want something a little less extravagant, but just as picturesque? Then we recommend Olomouc in the Czech Republic.
#3 Olomouc – Czech Republic
The best part about this destination is that you can have a traditional reception in a local restaurant. Then, you can take a long walk along the city, looking for places to take wedding pictures!
We recommend snapping one at each of the baroque water fountains scattered throughout Olomouc. You can find some dedicated to a few mythological figures (such as the Hercules, Neptune, Mercury, and Jupiter fountains). Some represent historical figures (Caesar Fountain).
Of course, the cream of the crop is the Olomouc Town Hall and Holy Trinity Column. The latter was declared a UNESCO world heritage site. So you can imagine what artistic shots you might take around the area.
If you want an even more interesting experience, head down to the Olomouc Astronomical Clock. It will delight you with its well-orchestrated clings and clangs – a relic from times past. In any case, we will step away from the urban landscapes for the rest of the article. Don’t worry, we still have wonderful places to take wedding pictures and have a great time!
#4 Lake Baikal – Russia
No matter what time of the year you visit Lake Baikal, you can always enjoy the scenery. However, summer is the greatest season for trekking in the area.
After you’ve found your ideal photo setting, you can take a swim, go sailing, and other couple-oriented activities.
On the other hand, if you visit during winter, you can catch the lake in a frozen state. You can walk over it and take a few interesting shots for your personal albums. On top of that, you can go exploring in the ice caves, or go dog sledding together! It’s quite a flexible destination to visit. Even if you miss one season, you can be sure there’s stuff to do in the next.
Now, the last of our destinations lies in Africa. You will certainly have some interesting places to visit for your photo shoots.
#5 Victoria Falls – Zambia/Zimbabwe
Have you ever thought about a safari post-wedding? Victoria Falls is one of the best places to take wedding pictures, and have a safari trip immediately after.
After changing, of course – you wouldn’t want to ruin your dress or tuxedo! The Itala Lodge is located about 5 minutes from the falls, so you’ll have no problem with that. Taking the pictures on the side of the falls means you’ll almost always see a rainbow in the shot. How many of your friends can brag about that? Not many, we presume.
Regardless, many of you who want a “dreamy” atmosphere in your wedding photos will appreciate the scenery. And, the fun you will have exploring the flora and fauna of the land.
Bird-watching in particular is a fun activity you can do together. If you want something with more adrenaline – try bungee jumping, zip-lining, or kayaking!
Places to Take Wedding Pictures – Final Thoughts
Wherever you go, the important thing to remember is that you’re going with your soul mate rather than solo. Even if your photos don’t end up the way you’ve imagined them to be, you can still cherish and remember those moments.
Whether you’re walking hand-in-hand along the Grand Canyon or skating across Lake Baikal, always remember who you’re with. Everything will feel all right.
In the meantime, tell us what you think of these locations in the comments. Otherwise, let us know what your “dream location” would be! If you’ve already had your wedding and went to an awesome place – tell us how it was. We’re sure everyone will appreciate some extra travel ideas.

Beautiful places indeed Ruth. I remember seeing a newly married couple taking pics on a yacht in Cinque Terre….. gorgeous! 🙂
Ruth says
Oh, that sounds like a great idea! I am sure their photos turned out gorgeous!
Agness says
I’m not planning to take a wedding in the near future (first I need to find a boyfriend LOL) but I would love to visit Greece once again, Santorini to be more precise, and spend a weekend there with a loved one!
Ruth says
That sounds great Agness! I traveled solo before getting married and had great experiences. However, traveling with my husband is different. You feel good when you can share the awesomeness of travel with the person you love.
David says
Truly beautiful places to take wedding pics.
Ruth says
Glad you liked it!
Carol says
A wonderful collection of places for beautiful photography and romantic weddings
Ruth says
You bet! I think these places are very romantic and wedding memories will last forever.
Sheree says
All beautiful places! I totally agree with the bit you say about not worrying if they don’t look perfect, for me it’s not about where you go but always who you go with! #FlyAwayFriday
Ruth says
Sheree, I can’t agree more with your comment. Sometimes we are a bit obsessed with perfection and forget how fun a photo shoot can be. And, it would be more fun in one of these destinations!
The Travelling Sociologist says
These are great ideas, and I like how you pair up each location with other fun things to do in that area with your significant other. I think that Switzerland is a must as well for location suggestions – those Alps are just too beautiful to miss out on and it is almost impossible to have a bad photo experience with them in the background. #FlyAwayFriday.
Ruth says
That is a great ideas! I think a lot of us feel like a beach wedding is an ideal wedding. But, you are right, the mountain can be a gorgeous background. I remember a friend who had her wedding and pictures at there favorite ski resort (in summer).
Rhonda Albom says
You found some beautiful spots. I can visualize fantastic wedding photos at any of these locations.
Ruth says
Thanks Rhonda! I think these locations (and others) can be used for other purposes (anniversary, birthdays, end of year).
Lyn aka The Travelling Lindfields says
Wedding photos seem so much more significant now than when I was young. It is hard to go anywhere in Sydney with a view of the harbour on a Saturday without seeing a bride and groom posing for photos. It always warms my heart to see these young couples starting out in life together.
Ruth says
Same thing in here Lyn. Here in California, people take advantage of many places for their pictures. The beaches a re very popular but I have seen people on museums, in Downtown LA and in Pasadena’s City Hall.

I was married in a church with a reception at a party center many years ago so nothing very fancy for us. I love the Santorini idea – just think of the photos from a wedding there!
Ruth says
Well, there is still time for you to take some romantic or family photos! You visit great places which can be used as background.
Cherie Rose Martin says
So happy to see Santorini on this list. I wouldn’t say no to a Grecian wedding. 😉

Ruth says
We are on the same page ;0) A wedding in Greece would be a blast!
Alex says
Can you just imagine if that sail boat shot went wrong! Oh dear!
Friends of mine are photographers and they are always being flown to Santorini for wedding shoots so you got that one right! 😉 #flyawayfriday
Ruth says
Ok, I guess photos like these have some dangers associated with them ;0) Really? I would love to be a wedding photographer then!
Jim ~ ReflectionsEnroute says
Oh, that photograph on the boat is spectacular. Thanks for linking up this week, #wkendtravelinspiration!

Thanks Jim!

Hmmm…you’ve got this old romantic thinking! Santorini just seems so perfect for a wedding. (Or any reason to visit, really!) I do like the photo on the boat, and we’re always going sailing, so… Maybe something like that, but in Greece? Ssshhh…don’t tell Ann! 😉
Ruth says
Ann needs to know! Just kidding but I like your sailboat idea. Imagine photos on a sailboat where the beautiful coast is kind of blurred. That sounds great!
Caryl Anne says
I couldn’t agree more about Santorini being the perfect place for a wedding! I’m sure any photo taken here would be absolutely breathtaking. The one above sure is!
eileen g says
These are neat photos. We thought about eloping to some exotic locale like Bali to get married, but in the end we did the traditional thing with a party and so on. And we had a GREAT honeymoon to satisfy the travelers in us.
Kreete | AdventurousTrails says
Yup, Russia would be amazing! Although if I could afford to go to the Grand Canyon for the photos, id be on the first plane over there haha! Great selection and beautiful photography too!
Kana says
Oooh what a unique post! I agree, the Grand Canyon is definitely an amazing place for photos – especially wedding photos! I would think Hawaii too! Thanks for joining Fly Away Friday, hope to see you again this week! xo
Janine Good says
I completely agree that these are epic spots for pics! We took our engagement ones in Santorini! Grand Canyon ones would be amazing. Thanks for coming out to Fly Away Friday! See you this week!

I really like this post! I thought that Greece was so beautiful that I decided to have a destination wedding there, although I chose a less touristy place in the province of Euobea, Greece. Would love to travel to Olomouc or Lake Baikal for my 5th year anniversary to take some new shots!
Tampa Wedding Photography says
Those are amazing destinations, Ruth! Most of my wedding photography are held locally in Florida but I’m aiming of going internationally. Thanks for the ideas!
