Looking for the best water sandals for women? Below I show you what are the top options for travel and outdoor activities!
Sandals are my favorite shoe style.
Due to some issues with my feet, this is the style that suits better my needs. I own many pairs and keep trying new brands and styles.
I prefer to buy waterproof sandals. After all, I am a Southern California resident and need to be beach-ready all the time.
Therefore, after dozens of pairs tested (and worn out), here are my best recommendations for water sandals.

Why Do you Need Water Sandals or Waterproof Sandals?
Well, it is obvious that you will need to pack a pair of water sandals if you are planning a trip to the beach, lake, or river.
However, a pair of sandals that work well in wet conditions can also be a fantastic option for urban, hiking, and camping trips. You will have shoes that support you in different conditions AND happen to perform in or near the water as well.
So, if you are going to spend money on a good pair of sandals, make sure those sandals are water-ready. Plus, you will be able to clean dirty sandals without worrying about ruining them.
Waterproof Sandals for Women – Top Pick
I am a huge Teva fan. So, it is not surprising that my top pick is a pair manufactured by the company.
I have used the Teva Women’s Tirra Sandals for over 15 years. I bought my first pair for a month-long trip to Europe and have continued using them for national and international trips. What is more, these sandals are perfect for hiking, camping and all sorts of outdoor activities.

These sandals have never cut or blistered my feet. And, this is the case after walking 15 -16 miles in a single day.
In addition to everything I have mentioned, I use these sandals to beach hop, shower on campsites, and wash the car.
These sandals have a rubber sole, a topsole that helps to disperse weight and provide stability, a molded midsole, and heels designed to absorb shock. The many straps allow you to adjust the front and back of the shoe.
Believe me, your feet will thank you for getting these sandals!

- Shock Absorbing Sole
- Anti-slippery
- Arch Support

Now that I have raved about my top pick, here are the rest of the best waterproof sandals.
Best Affordable Sandal
Camel Crown Waterproof Hiking Sandals are a great budget alternative to Teva’s sandals.

These sandals have an ergonomic design with arch support, shock-absorbing midsole, and a thick outsole (the bottom) to protect from sharp objects while walking. The outsole design helps to maintain grip when traversing difficult terrain. Plus, it makes the sandal non-slippery.
The footbed has an anti-slip design as well. These hold the feet in place and prevents them from taking a possibly dangerous angle. Multiple adjustable straps allow you to achieve a comfortable fit.
This is a top product at an excellent price.

- Waterproof
- Shock Absorbing Sole
- Anti-slippery
- Arch Support

Another Affordable Option
ATIKA Outdoors Women’s Waterproof Sandals are yet another great option at a rock bottom price.

Even though the price is affordable the reviews are stellar.
These sandals have pretty much the same features as Teva and Camel Crown: ergonomic footbed, cushioned midsole, and shock-absorbing outsole.
The manufacturer claims the high-quality materials used to build the sandals make them durable.
ATIKA has 4 styles: Havana, Maya, Muse, and Rosebud. Pay attention to the difference in styles when buying. In my opinion, the Havana and Maya styles look sporty. The Muse and Rosebud styles are sturdy but pair well with non-sporty clothes.
The Havana style is shown above. Below is the Maya style.

Best Specifically Design for Water
Chaco sells some of the most popular sport sandals. The company claims they sell the best product and their clients seem to back up this claim.
Since we are discussing waterproof sandals for ladies, these sandals were designed by river guides. So, you know these are the real deal when it comes to water. The sandals look simple but the design is quite complex.
I wasn’t a fan of Chaco’s for a long time. I got a pair of Z2 Classic Sandals and didn’t like the straps around my big toes. I ended up giving away the pair.
Now, things changed when the company released the Women’s Z1 Classic Sport Sandals. That is a style I love and have used for a long time.

Best for Ankle Support
Sketchers is another brand I adore. I usually burn two pairs in less than a year. I replace them right away.
When it comes to sandals, their Ankle Strap Sport Sandals are a great waterproof alternative. One of the strongest selling points is that these sandals look really good and can be paired with a nice outfit. The straps look less sporty when compared to the brands we have already discussed. Also, users rave about the great ankle support

Now, let me tell you these sandals work better in a casual, non-extenuating type of environment. By this, I am referring to circumstances when you need waterproof sandals but you are not going to be performing a lot of physical activity or navigating rough terrain.
These sandals provide less stability than Teva’s or Chaco’s (I believe it is because of the synthetic sole, my ankle has bent when using these). Also, the grip in the sole is not as good. It is easier to slip wearing these.
Pros
- Good Price
- Waterproof
- Shock Absorbing Sole
- Arch Support
- Stylish
- Comes in Different Colors
Cons
- Less stability than other sandals
- More slippery than other sandals
- Non Anti-Microbial Properties
- Only one adjustable strap
- Not recommended for hiking or other rough activities
Best Closed Toe Sandals
If you have used open-toe sandals, like all the styles we have discussed above, you know how dirty your feet end after a day of walking, hiking, and playing. I have come back to my house or hotel room with my feet black. Literally.
Also, toes are pretty much exposed. You can get cuts, bruises, or bites.
Closed-toe sandals help with these issues. They offer the benefits we have already discuss and they protect the feet as well.
KEEN manufactures the best sandals in this category. The Women’s Whisper Sandals have a huge fan base. These are waterproof, non-slippery, and comfortable. Plus, they are easy to put on and durable.

Affordable Closed Toe Sandals
KEEN sandals are phenomenal but some people may be deterred to get them because of the price.
If you are looking for close-toe sandals for water and hiking at a decent price, try the Dream Pairs Women’s Outdoor Sandals. These can be bought for about half the price of KEEN.

I think it is hard to beat the Teva Women’s Original Universal Sandals when it comes to being an icon.
They have become a classic because of their clean yet stylish design. With time, the company has come up with some really cool colors and patterns.

These sandals are water-ready, comfortable, durable (a pair last years), and recyclable. Now, I do not feel these sandals are comfortable as Teva’s Tirra Sandals. The sole is a bit hard and some break-in time is needed.
These are good outdoor sandals but I will not use them in extreme situations (rough or uneven terrain).
Pros
- Great Price
- Waterproof
- Comfortable
- Multiple Adjustable Straps
- Colors to Choose From
- Recyclable
Cons
- More slippery than other sandals
- Almost None Arch Support
- Non Anti-Microbial Properties
- Not a lot of cushion

They are made of 100% genuine leather upper and a synthetic rubber sole. These combine comfort with functionality and style.
Once worn and submersed in water, the sandals form the shape of the foot for that extra comfort. Buckled ankle strap ensures that perfect fit, without the risk of it falling off.
These versatile sandals are made for wearing on the beach, walking in fresh or seawater, or just hanging out anywhere. They are available in 20 different colors.
Pros
- Stylish
- Waterproof
- Comfortable
- Colors to Choose From
Cons
- Flat footbed (can slip)

Other Options
Here are other waterproof sandal/shoe options to get you ready for outdoor fun!
Best Slide Sandals
I love Birkenstocks too! That is why I got excited when they released the Essential Arizona Sandals.
This sandal has the same style as their Classic Arizona but it is completely waterproof and washable. The footbed is anatomically shaped with arches and a deep heel cup. The two straps can be adjusted.

Best Flip Flops
Teva makes my favorite flips flops (I have owned over 10 pairs). The Olowahu flip flop is made with a textile upper and synthetic sole. The cushy contoured footbed form to the owner’s feet, providing arch support. A decorative thong strap and two cross straps secure the foot, preventing it from sliding around, even when walking on sand.
It is available in 18 different colors.

Best Water Shoes
Water shoes are perfect for boating, sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, yoga, exercise, or just walking on the beach or among coral or rocks.
The VIFUUR slip-on unisex water sports shoes are made with breathable smooth fine stretch material uppers. The durable rubber sole offers protection against gravel, rocks, or rough ground. The smooth design prevents chafing and does not allow debris to enter the shoe. Feels almost like walking barefoot.

The shoes are lightweight, flexible, comfortable, and soft. Just wash and let them dry after use. All sizes (kids/men/women) are available and come in over 40 different colors and trendy designs.
Which are the Best Women’s Water Sandals?
When it comes to sandals for water, this is what I will take into consideration:
Water-Ready – Of course, this is the most important consideration. The best sandals for water have a waterproof sole (usually rubber) and quick-drying, synthetic textile straps. Some water sandals are completely manufactured from waterproof materials. However, it is more common to find textile straps since it is easier to adjust those.
Comfort – Yes, we want a sandal that works well when wet but we also want comfort. And, I am referring to sandals you can walk on miles and miles. To be more specific, I am referring to arch support, shock absorption, and good fit. We also want sandals that do not cause cuts or blisters.
Stability – This is an important factor to consider. I have worn sandals that have caused my ankle to bend. This is super painful and dangerous. You want a pair of sandals that makes you feel confident in rough terrain.
Grip – For obvious reasons, we want non-slippery sandals.
Antimicrobial – The best water sandals out there come with antimicrobial and antifungal additives. This prevents degradation, stains, and odors.
Non Slip Off – Good waterproof sandals will not slip off your feet. The ones I recommend here have straps that allow them to be secure to the feet. I do not think flip-flops or sandals without a backstrap are the best women’s water sandals options.
Color and Style – These are less important factors but I think it is important to have a pair of sandals that looks good. Darker colors may work better.
